Sonar and transducer
Since it’s a TripleShot fish finder, the Lowrance 000-15851-001 offers three sonar technologies. These are SideScan, DownScan, and standard CHIRP sonar. As its name suggests, it has the FishReveal feature that lets you combine the standard CHIRP image with the DownScan sonar image. This way, you can view the fish arches detected by the 2D sonar, in the DownScan sonar image with helps with a better assessment of their position in relation to the bottom, vegetation, or structure. Of course, features like Fish ID, Bottom Lock, Circular Flasher, A-Scope, etc, are also available with this unit.
The unit supports 50/83/200 kHz for standard sonar and 455/800 kHz for StructureScan (DownScan and SideScan). However, it does not support other types of sonar, such as ForwardScan, or StructureScan 3D. It comes with the TripleShot transducer which supports all three aforementioned sonar technologies. The transducer is equipped with a transom mount. It has 20 ft. (6 m) of cable and an internal temperature sensor. The unit can also indicate water temperature.
The transducer casts only one conical beam for the standard CHIRP sonar. Its coverage is 44° and uses the 200 kHz channel. This being said, you can only use High CHIRP with the included transducer. The depth range of the High CHIRP beam is 500 ft. (153 m).
For SideScan and DownScan, the transducer uses oval beams. The DownScan beams have a coverage of 55/2.5° @ 455 kHz & 35/1.5° @ 800 kHz, with a maximum depth range of 300 ft. (91 m). The SideScan beams have similar angles. Their side range is 600 ft. (183 cm) @ 455 kHz, and 300 ft. (91 m) @ 800 kHz.
Navigation features
The Lowrance HOOK Reveal 9 TripleShot Contour+ is also a chartplotter. Although it does not support radar and autopilot units, it does offer a fairly decent range of navigation features. To begin with, just like the Lowrance 000-15852-001, it is equipped with a 1 Hz internal GPS receiver. It can use GLONASS, MSAS, WAAS, and EGNOS for position augmentation. It also has a GPS speed feature.
The unit comes with the Contour+ charts from C-MAP. These offer more detail and information than the previous U.S. Inland Basemap. They cover more than 15,000 U.S. lakes and more than 9,400 Canadian lakes at 1-foot contours. They also offer coverage for the near-shore coastal areas of the U.S., Bermuda, and Hawaii. Also, the unit supports various other charts from Navionics and C-MAP. The list includes C-MAP Insight Pro, C-MAP MAX N, MAX N+, C-MAP Precision Contour HD, Navionics+, Navionics Platinum+, and Navionics Gold/HotMaps.
The Genesis Live feature is included with this Lowrance unit as well. This is an application for bathymetric mapping. It uses the standard sonar data and the GPS data to reveal and record the depth contours of the lake that you’re scanning and draw them on the map. Thus, if the included charts don’t offer satisfying detail for your favorite lake, you can map it yourself and create your own fishing map with the most up-to-date depth contours.
Last but not least, the HOOK Reveal 9 TS Contour+ also has the StructureMap feature. This allows you to overlay recorded SideScan sonar images on the map, or even use StructureMap live, to draw the SideScan sonar on the map behind your boat as you sail, in real-time.
Control unit features
The HOOK Reveal 9 TripleShot Contour+ features a 9-inch display with a pixel matrix of 800H x 480V. It’s a SolarMax display so it’s equipped with a pretty bright backlight for excellent reading in sunlight. It is also IPX7 waterproof.
The only has the side keypad for navigation. It does not have touchscreen technology like the Elite-12 Ti2, for example. It is equipped with an 8-way directional key, Zoom key, Enter/Exit key, Menu Access key, Waypoint on Cursor key, and on-off key. Its interface is very easy to use. Its homepage can be customized with various application combos for quick selection and the possibility to work with up to four applications in split-view.
Like all the other HOOK units, the 000-15851-001 does not have networking features (no NMEA ports, no Ethernet connectivity, no WiFi). However, it does have a microSD card slot which not only allows you to use different charts, it also offers the possibility to back-up data (recorded sonar, waypoints, Genesis Live maps, etc) on a blank microSD card.
Finally, the unit comes with the standard bracket mount. A set of corner clips is included. The box does not include a unit cover or a trolling mount for the transducer.
