The HOOK Reveal 9 is one of the Lowrance fish finders released in 2020. However, this is one of the newer models released in 2021. It comes with the Contour+ charts. Also, this is the part number 000-15852-001, the one that includes the HDI 50/200 kHz transducer. It’s a fish finder system similar to the Lowrance HOOK Reveal 7 000-15855-001 but has a wider (9 inch) display.

Sonar and transducer
The HOOK Reveal 9 HDI Contour+ offers two sonar technologies (standard CHIRP and DownScan). It supports multiple base frequencies including 50/83/200 kHz for the CHIRP sonar and 455/800 kHz for DownScan. The unit does not support Active Imaging, Active Target, or ForwardScan sonar. It’s also labeled “SS” which stands for SplitShot; this means that it does not support SideScan sonar.
The unit comes with the HDI 50/200 kHz transducer which offers depth capabilities superior to the SplitShot transducer. It also has an internal temperature sensor. It can scan depths up to 3,000 ft. (914 m) in CHIRP mode. It uses conical beams for the CHIRP sonar, with a coverage of 12° @ 200 kHz, and 29° @ 50 kHz.
For the DownScan sonar, the beams are oval and thin but offer a wider coverage. The 455 kHz beam is 4° fore-to-aft and 57° side-to-side, while the 800 kHz beam is 2° fore-to-aft and 38° side-to-side. The maximum depth range of the DownScan is 300 ft. (91 m).
The unit offers a fairly decent range of standard sonar features. As its name suggests, it has the FishReveal mode which allows you to bring the standard CHIRP view into the DownScan window. This way, you can observe the fish arches caught by the CHIRP sonar in a better relation to structure or the bottom. Sonar Autotuning is also available with this unit, as well as features such as Fish ID, Circular Flasher for ice fishing, Bottom Lock, A-Scope, various alarms, sonar recording, and more.
The Lowrance HOOK Reveal 9 HDI Contour+ is equipped with a 1 Hz internal GPS. It supports WAAS, GLONASS, EGNOS, and MSAS for position augmentation. The unit offers the possibility to save up to 3,000 waypoints in its memory, record up to 100 tracks, and create up to 100 routes. Each recorded track can have up to 10,000 points.
The unit includes a C-MAP Contour+ charts card. These charts are way better than the U.S. Inland Basemap which was initially included with the HOOK Reveal units. They cover more than 15,000 U.S. lakes and more than 9,400 Canadian lakes at 1-foot contours. They also offer coverage for the near-shore coastal areas of the U.S., Bermuda, and Hawaii.
Of course, the unit also supports various other premium charts. For example, you can load it up with a different charts card such as Navionics+, Navionics Gold/HotMaps, Navionics Platinum+, or C-MAP charts, such as C-MAP Insight Pro, C-MAP MAX N, and MAX N+, C-MAP Precision Contour HD.
The unit also offers bathymetric mapping possibilities. It has the Genesis Live feature which can use the GPS data and the CHIRP sonar data to reveal and record the depth contours of the lake you’re scanning on the map. Therefore, if the included charts don’t offer enough detail, you can create your own custom fishing map for your favorite lake, with the newest depth contours, fishing spots, etc.
Control unit features
The HOOK Reveal 9 000-15852-001 features a 9-inch display with a pixel resolution of 800H x 480V. It’s a SolarMax display with LED backlight and offers fairly decent readability from angles of 80° top/bottom, 85° left/right. It is also IPX7 waterproof so it can withstand incidental water exposure with no problem.
The unit does not have touchscreen technology, so you can only operate it via the keypad on the right. It offers buttons for It’s equipped with an 8-way directional key, Zoom key, Enter/Exit key, Menu Access key, Waypoint on Cursor key, and on-off key. Its interface is easy-to-use, you can add quick access pages to its starting screen for quick access, and you can work with up to four applications in split-screen.
It’s important to mention, though, that the unit does not offer networking possibilities. It does not have NMEA or Ethernet ports. It also does not have Bluetooth or WiFi connectivity. However, it does have a microSD card slot, which you can load with a blank card if you need data back-up, and of course, you can use either the Contour+ card provided with the unit, or various other map cards from Navionics or C-MAP.
Finally, the unit comes with the standard reveal 9 bracket mount, unit corner clips, and the transducer features a transom mount. The box does not include a unit cover.
