The ICE-35 is one of the oldest Humminbird ICE fish finders but it still is available. It’s a standard flasher designed for ice fishing or down dropping, offering only fish finding features. It doesn’t have GPS or any other navigation features. For reference, this is the Humminbird part number 407020-1.

Sonar and transducer
The Humminbird ICE-35 is a DualBeam sonar fish finder. This means it’s capable of using two sonar beams, one at 240 kHz, and the other one at 455 kHz. However, since it’s not a DualBeam Plus sonar, the system can only run one frequency at the time. It’s also not a CHIRP unit. This means it only uses one frequency per beam.
The unit comes with the Xi 9 19 transducer which is an ice-type ABS transducer, featuring a conical shape. It’s equipped with a stabilizing floater and 8′ (2.4 m) of cable. In case you’re wondering, this transducer does not include a temperature sensor. The unit is also not capable of reading water temperature.
The transducer can operate at both 240/455 kHz frequencies supported by the unit. It uses two conical beams, one with a wider coverage of 19° for 240 kHz, and a narrower beam of 9° for 455 kHz. The unit has a button that allows you to quickly swap between the two beams if needed.
The system’s depth capability is 200 ft (61 m). However, most anglers have reported that it doesn’t track the jig very well when fishing at depths greater 120 ft (36.5 m). Therefore, if you’re going to fish in lakes deeper than that, we recommend the ICE 55, or the HELIX 5 ICE.
Control unit and accessories
To begin with, the Humminbird ICE-35 fish finder features a 3-color fiber optic display, divided into 526 segments. Just as any other flasher display, it should be read clockwise. The 0 position represents the water surface. The red segments indicate strong returns. Usually, the thicker, red segment is the bottom and everything between this segment and zero is placed in the sonar beam between the bottom and the transducer. The orange segments indicate medium intensity returns, while the green segments indicate lower intensity returns, like small fish, debris, and your jig.
In case you’re wondering, the unit does not have the center display for the depth detected by the transducer like the 45 or 55 units.
The unit is equipped with a range dial featuring four distinct ranges, these being x1, x2, x4, and x10. The first three depth ranges are displayed as three rings in the middle of the unit and will give you an idea of the water depth, the depth of your jig or the fish that enter the transducer beam.
Just as any other flasher, the Humminbird ICE-35 shows the movement of your jig or the fish that are attacking it in real time. You should be able to see their movement represented by the segments between the bottom and the surface.
Finally, the box does not include the Humminbird CC ICE Soft Sided Carrying Case. However, the unit does come with the swivel plastic mount featuring a top handle which allows you to easily carry it. A 12V 7AMP battery and a charger for it are included. The battery should last between 8 to 12 hours according to the reports of various anglers.
The Pros
- DualBeam sonar with two available frequencies – 240/455 kHz;
- XI 9 19 ice transducer included;
- Four ranges available x1, x2, x4, x10;
- Carrying mount included;
- Battery and charger are included;
- 3-color display – 526 segments;
- Noise reduction function included;
- Gain function included;
- Dynamic Zoom function included;
- Easy to use and assemble;
- High portability.
The Cons
- No digital depth display in the middle of the unit; you can only estimate the depth depending on the hard return reading.
Summary
The Humminbird ICE-35 is a basic ice fishfinder featuring a flasher layout with a 3-color range optic fiber display. It includes the ice transducer, battery, charger, and the portable swivel mount. It’s an excellent unit for fishing at depths up to 200 ft. And finally, it’s currently the most affordable Humminbird ice fish finder.
