Sonar and transducer
The ECHOMAP Ultra 102sv 010-02526-01 supports all sonar technologies available from Garmin. It has built-in ClearVü, SideVü, standard CHIRP sonar, and also supports Panoptix live sonar. Of course, in order to use the Panoptix sonar application, you will need a Panoptix transducer which is not included.
The unit comes with the GT56UHD-TM transducer which supports standard CHIRP, ClearVü, and SideVü. It has a built-in temperature sensor, features 25 ft. (7.6 m) of cable with a 12-pin connector, and comes with a transom mount.
For the structure scanning sonar (ClearVü and SideVü), the transducer casts oval beams. Their coverage is 1.1° x 52° @ 455 kHz (425-485 kHz), 0.64° x 35° @ 800 kHz (790-850 kHz), and 0.52° x 52° @ 1000 kHz (940-1100 kHz). The maximum side range that can be achieved with the SideVü sonar is 500 ft. (152 m), while the maximum depth that can be reached by the ClearVü sonar is 400 ft. (122 m).
For the standard CHIRP sonar application, the transducer can only use the 200 kHz (150-240 kHz) channel. Differently put, it can only use High CHIRP sonar. The beam is conical; it offers a variable coverage of 24° – 16° and a maximum depth range of 800 ft. (244 m).
The unit offers the full range of standard sonar features. To begin with, it has the new Vivid Color Palette. In other words, the unit offers several color modes for the ClearVü and SideVü sonar which can help a lot with distinguishing fish from structure or vegetation. The list of sonar features also includes A-Scope, Fish Symbol ID, Circular Flasher, Bottom Lock, Depth Alarm, Fish Alarm, and more. The unit also has Sonar Recording and a Temperature Graph feature.
Navigation features
As opposed to the ECHOMAP Ultra 106sv which comes with both BlueChart and LakeVü charts, the 102sv 010-02526-01 model only has the Worldwide Base map as its built-in chart platform. These charts only offer basic detail, but you can always upgrade its chart base to LakeVü g3, LakeVü g3 Ultra, BlueChart g3, or BlueChart g3 Vision; the unit supports all these charts.
The Quickdraw Contours application is also available with this Garmin fish finder. Quickdraw Contours uses the standard CHIRP sonar and the unit’s built-in GPS to reveal and draw the depth contours of the lake you’re scanning on the map. Therefore, you can always craft your own fishing charts, no matter where you fish. Plus, the unit has wireless connectivity and you can always download already made charts from the Garmin Quickdraw Community, as well as share the one you’ve made with other anglers.
The unit’s internal GPS receiver operates at 10 Hz. This being said, it can provide position updates 10 times per second. It also supports WAAS, EGNOS, and MSAS for position augmentation. Plus, the unit has waypoint creation, route creation, and trackplotting functions. You can save up to 5,000 waypoints in its memory, 100 routes, and up to 50 tracks. Each track can have 50,000 points.
The ECHOMAP Ultra 102sv does not support radar. However, it does support AIS units, can display position data from DSC-capable VHF radio. It also supports FUSION-Link™ compatible radios. Plus, it offers a wide array of gauges and graphs for information with regards to your engine, fuel, trips, wind, tides, and currents, and more.
Control unit features
As the number in the unit’s name suggests, the Garmin ECHOMAP Ultra 102sv features a 10″ display. It’s a full-color WXGA IPS display, with a pixel matrix of 1280H x 800V, and LED backlight for superior visibility in direct sunlight. The unit is IPX7 waterproof so it can withstand incidental water exposure with no problem. It also has both touchscreen technology and a side keypad for easy usage and navigation.
In terms of networking, the unit supports NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000. It also has two Garmin Marine Network™ ports for large connectors. This being said, you can share data between various Garmin units, or enable your ECHOMAP Ultra chartplotter to communicate with different other instruments such as AIS units, VHF radios, FUSION-Link compatible radios, external GPS sensors, and more. Also, the unit has a dual microSD card reader.
The unit also has wireless connectivity (WiFi). This being said, you can sync it with your tablet or smartphone via the ActiveCaptain app. This app opens a wide array of features. For example, your can pre-plan a fishing trip and pre-fish a lake before even leaving your house, access the Garmin Quickdraw Community for map uploads or downloads, easily update the unit’s software if necessary, and even benefit from smart notifications from your phone.
The unit comes with the quick-release mount. The flush mount and the unit cover are not included.
