Sonar and transducer
The Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 95sv unit offers multiple sonar technologies, including standard CHIRP, ClearVü, and SideVü. It supports multiple base frequencies, including 50/77/200 kHz for the CHIRP sonar, and 260/455/800/1000 kHz for ClearVü and SideVü. It also supports Panoptix sonar if paired with a PS31 or PS22 transducer.
As opposed to the ECHOMAP UHD 95sv released in 2019 which includes the older GT54UHD transducer, this newer 010-02525-00 model comes with the GT56UHD transducer which supports 1000 kHz. The GT56UHD transducer has a built-in temperature sensor, features 25 ft. (7.6 m) of cable with a 12-pin connector, and comes with a transom mount.
For the standard CHIRP sonar, the transducer can only use the High CHIRP channel in a frequency range of 150-240 kHz. The standard CHIRP beam is conical; it offers a coverage of 24°-16°, and a depth capability of 800 ft. (244 m).
For ClearVü and SideVü, the transducer uses oval beams. Their coverage is 1.1° x 52° @ 455 kHz (425-485 kHz), 0.64° x 35° @ 800 kHz (790-850 kHz), and 0.52° x 52° @ 1000 kHz (940-1100 kHz). The maximum side range that can be achieved with the SideVü sonar is 500 ft. (152 m), while the maximum depth that can be reached by the ClearVü sonar is 400 ft. (122 m).
The unit offers the full range of standard sonar features. To begin with, it has the new Vivid Color Palette. In other words, the unit offers several color modes for the ClearVü and SideVü sonar which can help a lot with distinguishing fish from structure or vegetation. The list of sonar features also includes A-Scope, Fish Symbol ID, Circular Flasher, Bottom Lock, Depth Alarm, Fish Alarm, and more. The unit also has Sonar Recording and a Temperature Graph feature.
Navigation features
This Garmin fish finder is also a chartplotter. It is equipped with a 5 Hz internal GPS. Thus, it can provide position updates 5 times per second. It can also use WAAS, MSAS, and EGNOS for position augmentation. Plus, the unit can store up to 5,000 waypoints in its memory, 100 routes, and 50 tracks. Each track can have up to 50,000 points and can be converted to a route to which you can add waypoints.
The unit is pre-loaded with the Canada LakeVü g3 charts. This chart platform covers more than 13,500 lakes of which more than 4,800 offer 1-foot contour detail. Features such as Auto Guidance, Depth Range Shading, and Shallow Water Shading are also available with these maps.
The unit supports other charts from Garmin as well. It has a microSD card slot which can be loaded with a LakeVü g3 Ultra, BlueChart g3, or BlueChart g3 Vision map card. However, the unit does not support charts from Navionics.
In case the pre-loaded charts do not offer satisfying detail for your favorite lake, the unit still has you covered. It has the Quickdraw Contours feature which uses the GPS data and the sonar data to reveal and record the depth contours of the lake that you’re scanning. This way, you can create your own custom fishing maps with the newest contours.
The SailAssist page is also available with this Garmin unit. The sail assist features include laylines, enhanced wind rose, heading and course-over-ground lines, time to burn before the start, and the race times. The unit supports AIS data, DSC data, and is ActiveCaptain compatible. You can also compatible with Force Trolling Motors, heading sensors such as SteadyCast, and more. It does not support Radar, though.
Control unit features
The ECHOMAP UHD 95sv features a 9-inch display with a pixel matrix of 800H x 400V. It has LED backlight for improved readability in direct sunlight. It combines keypad navigation with touchscreen technology and has a highly intuitive interface very easy to use. Its homepage can be customized with the most used app combos, and you can work with up to four applications simultaneously in split screen.
The unit offers superior networking features. To begin with, it has NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 ports. It also has an Ethernet port but that is only for Panoptix transducers. This being said, you can easily hook it up to an already existing boat network so it can receive data and work directly with other boating instruments. It is AIS and DSC compatible but does not support Radar.
The unit also has wireless connectivity and is compatible with the ActiveCaptain app. Therefore, if you install this app on your phone, you can easily download charts, or upload your own charts created with the Quickdraw Contours feature and share them with the Quickdraw Community. Software updates and data backup are also done much easily via the WiFi connection. Plus, your chartplotter can even get smart notifications from your phone and show them on its display.
Last but not least, the unit comes with the standard tilt-mount with quick-release. A flush mount and a protective cover are also included.
