Sonar and transducer
The Garmin ECHOMAP UHD94sv 010-02524-01 offers three sonar technologies. These are standard CHIRP sonar, ClearVü, and SideVü. The unit also supports Panoptix sonar if it is paired with a transducer such as the PS22-TR, or the PS31. It supports multiple frequencies, including 50/77/200 kHz for standard CHIRP and 260/455/800/1000 kHz for SideVü & ClearVü. It also supports dual-frequency. In other words, if it’s paired with a 50/200 kHz or a 77/200 kHz transducer, it should be able to run both beams simultaneously.
As we’ve mentioned above, the unit comes with the newer GT56UHD-TM transducer which has a transom mount, 25 ft. (7.6 m) of cable, and an internal temperature sensor. The 2D CHIRP sonar, this transducer only uses one conical beam at 150-240 kHz with a coverage range of 24° – 16° and a depth capability of 800 ft. (244 m).
For SideVü and ClearVü, the transducer uses oval beams and supports three CHIRP channels. The beams coverage is 0.52° x 52° @ 1000 kHz (940-1100 kHz), 0.64° x 35° @ 800 kHz (790-850 kHz), and 1.1° x 52° @ 455 kHz (425-485 kHz). The maximum side range that can be reached by the SideVü beams is 500 ft. (152 m); the maximum depth that can be reached with the ClearVü sonar is approx. 400 ft. (122 m).
The unit also offers the full range of standard sonar features. The list includes Amplitude Scope, Fish Symbols, Circular Flasher, Bottom Lock, Fish Alarm, Depth Alarm, etc. The unit also has Sonar Recording and Rewind, as well as a Temperature Graph feature. Plus, since it’s a newer model, it has the Vivid Color Palette for the structure scanning sonar which can be helpful in certain situations for distinguishing fish from structure or get a better view of the contours of a certain submerged object.
Navigation features
The ECHOMAP UHD 94sv 010-02524-01 is pre-loaded with the BlueChart g3 maps. These are coastal charts covering the West Coast, the East Coast, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Canadian side of the Great Lakes. They’re charts enhanced with Navionics data. They also offer features such as Depth Range Shading, Auto Guidance, and more. The unit also supports the Garmin in-land lake maps LakeVü g3 and LakeVü g3 Ultra, as well as the premium version of the BlueChart maps, BlueChart g3 Vision.
Regardless of the chart platform you’re using, the unit has its own bathymetric map creation function – Quickdraw Contours. This application uses the GPS data and the CHIRP sonar data to reveal and record the depth contours of the scanned body of water on the map. Thus, you can create your own custom fishing charts.
The unit’s internal GPS operates at 5 Hz. This means it can provide position updates 10 times per second. The unit also has waypoint creation, route creation, and trackplotting functions. It can save up to 5,000 waypoints in its memory, 100 routes, and 50 tracks. Each track can have up to 50,000 points; each track can be converted later on into a route.
The SailAssist page is also available with this Garmin unit. The sail assist features include laylines, enhanced wind rose, heading and course-over-ground lines, time to burn before the start, and the race times. The unit supports AIS data, DSC data, and is ActiveCaptain compatible. You can also compatible with Force Trolling Motors, heading sensors such as SteadyCast, and more. It does not support Radar, though.
Control unit features
The Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 94sv 010-02524-01 features a 9-inch display, with white LED backlight, and a pixel resolution of 800H x 400V. It has both a keypad and touchscreen technology for easy navigation and control. It is also IPX7 waterproof which essentially means that it can withstand incidental water exposure.
The unit comes with the standard quick-release tilt mount. The box also includes a unit cover and a flush mount.
Although the unit does not support Radar, it is NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 compatible. Thus, you can easily connect it to an already existent boat grid so it can communicate with other boating instruments. It also has an Ethernet port, but it is only for the Panoptix transducers.
The unit also has wireless connectivity and is compatible with the ActiveCaptain app. Therefore, if you install this app on your phone, you can easily download charts, or upload your own charts created with the Quickdraw Contours feature and share them with the Quickdraw Community. Software updates and data backup are also done much easily via the WiFi connection. Plus, your chartplotter can even get smart notifications from your phone and show them on its display.
