Sonar and transducer
The Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 93sv 010-02523-01 has three built-in sonar technologies. These are standard CHIRP, ClearVü, and SideVü. It supports multiple frequencies including 50/77/200 kHz for the 2D CHIRP sonar, and 260/455/800/1000 kHz for structure scanning. It supports dual-frequency and should be able to work with both traditional CHIRP beams if paired with a 77/200 kHz or 50/200 kHz transducer. It also supports Panoptix sonar.
As we’ve mentioned above, the unit comes with the newer GT56UHD transducer which supports the three main sonar technologies provided by the unit. It’s a temperature-capable transducer, features 25 ft. (7.6 m) of cable with a 12-pin connector, and comes with a transom mount.
For ClearVü and SideVü, the transducer uses oval beams and supports three different CHIRP frequency channels (455/800/1000 kHz). The beamwidths are 1.1° x 52° @ 455 kHz (425-485 kHz), 0.64° x 35° @ 800 kHz (790-850 kHz), and 0.52° x 52° @ 1000 kHz (940-1100 kHz). The maximum depth capability of the ClearVü sonar is 400 ft. (122 m), while the maximum side range of the SideVü beams is 500 ft. (152 m).
For standard CHIRP, the transducer can use only one, conical beam in a CHIRP range of 150-240 kHz. In other words, it can only use a High CHIRP mode. The beam coverage is variable, between 24° – 16°. The maximum depth range of the CHIRP standard beam is 800 ft. (244 m).
The unit also offers the full range of standard sonar features. The list includes Amplitude Scope, Fish Symbols, Circular Flasher, Bottom Lock, Fish Alarm, Depth Alarm, etc. The unit also has Sonar Recording and Rewind, as well as a Temperature Graph feature. Plus, since it’s a newer model, it has the Vivid Color Palette for the structure scanning sonar which can be helpful in certain situations for distinguishing fish from structure or get a better view of the contours of a certain submerged object.
Navigation features
The Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 93sv 010-02523-01 fish finder is a chartplotter as well and offers a fairly decent range of navigation features. To begin with, it integrates a 5 Hz GPS receiver, so it can provide position updates 5 times per second. It supports EGNOS, WAAS, and MSAS for position augmentation. It has a GPS speed function, waypoint creation, route creation, and trackplotting functions. You can save up to 5,000 waypoints in its memory, 100 routes, and 50 tracks. Each track can have up to 50,000 points.
The unit is pre-loaded with the LakeVü g3 charts. These offer coverage for the US inland waters. They include depth contours for more than 17,000 lakes, reservoirs, and rivers. They’re enhanced with Navionics data and provide more information than the previous LakeVü g2. They also make available features like Depth Range Shading and Auto Guidance.
Needless to say, the unit supports the Garmin coastal charts BlueChart g3 and BlueChart g3 Vision, as well as the superior version of the lake charts, LakeVü g3 Ultra. It also has the Quickdraw Contours feature which is basically a bathymetric mapping application. It uses the GPS data and the CHIRP sonar data to reveal and record the depth contours of the lake that you are scanning. Thus, you can create your own custom fishing charts with the newest contours.
The SailAssist page is also available with this Garmin unit. The sail assist features include laylines, enhanced wind rose, heading and course-over-ground lines, time to burn before the start, and the race times. Also, the unit supports AIS data, DSC data, and is ActiveCaptain compatible. It does not support Radar, though.
Control unit features
The Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 93sv 010-02523-01 features a WVGA color display with LED backlight and a pixel matrix of 800H x 400V. It combines touchscreen technology with the side keypad for the usage of its functions and navigation through the menus. It has a user-friendly interface, you can pin the most used application combos to its home-screen, and use a split-view with up to four applications simultaneously.
The unit comes with the standard tilt and quick-release mount. A flush mount and a unit cover are also included.
In terms of networking, the unit has NMEA 0183 ports and supports NMEA 2000. This being said, you can easily integrate it into an already existent boat grid, connect it to various compatible autopilot units, weather, Fusion-Link audio systems, VHF radio units, AIS units, heading sensors, etc. It’s also compatible with Garmin Force trolling motors.
The unit has built-in Wi-Fi as well. Therefore, you can sync it with your smartphone via the ActiveCaptain app in order to access OneChart, access the Garmin Quickdraw Community to download or upload charts created via the Quickdraw Contours application, update the unit’s software with ease, and even get smart notifications from your phone.
