Sonar and transducers
The Lowrance Elite-7 Ti2 has built-in Active Imaging 3-in-1 sonar. This means it can support 2D CHIRP traditional sonar, DownScan Imaging, and SideScan Imaging. It also means that it is compatible with all Active Imaging transducers and supports 50/83/200/455/800 kHz base sonar frequencies.
As opposed to the Elite-7 Ti2 000-14638-001, this unit includes two transducers, these being the Active Imaging 2-in-1 transducer for SideScan and DownScan and the Mid/High Skimmer for 2D traditional CHIRP sonar. Both these transducers transom mounts, approx. 25 ft (8m) of cable, and internal temperatures sensors. The 2-in-1 transducer has a 9-pin connector, while the 2D skimmer features a 7-pin connector. However, the box includes a 7-pin to 9-pin adapter cable.
For SideScan and DownScan, the Active Imaging 2-in-1 transducer uses thin beams with an oval shape. Their exact degree coverage is not specified. The side coverage of the SideScan beams is 300 ft (91 m) @ 455 kHz (on each side), and 150 ft (46 m) @ 800 kHz (on each side). The specified depth capability for the DownScan beam is 300 ft (91 m).
Conversely, the Mid/High Skimmer transducer uses conical beams. Their coverage is 52° @ 83 kHz, and 22° @ 200 kHz. The maximum depth capability of this transducer is 1,000 ft (305 m) when using the 83 kHz frequency. The exact CHIRP intervals of this transducer are not specified either.
The Elite-7 Ti2 offers a wide array of standard sonar applications. One of the newest features is FishReveal™. This application puts all the fish arches detected by the 2D CHIRP sonar beams into the DownScan Imaging view. Therefore, it gives you the possibility to make better assessments with regards to the position of fish targets in relation to the better-detailed structure, vegetation, or the bottom. Fish ID, Bottom Lock, A-Scope, TrackBack, Fish Alarm, Circular Flasher, Fish Alarm and other functions are also available.
Navigation features
The Lowrance Elite-7 Ti2 000-14642-001 has the U.S. Inland maps built-in. This being said, the unit’s internal charts offer coverage for the U.S. inland waters. They offer more than 4,000 high-definition lakes with 1-foot contours and over 11,250 lakes with standard-definition. These charts are based on the C-MAP charts; offer basic support for navigation also making it easier to narrow your search for productive water and to locate fishing hot spots like ledges, drop-offs, and vegetation covers.
The unit supports various other superior and premium charts. The list includes Insight Pro, Insight HD, Navionics Gold, Navionics+, Navionics Platinum+, C-MAP Max-N, and C-MAP Max-N+. Therefore, if you want extra features like coastal coverage, satellite imagery, satellite overlay, currents information, aerial photos, etc, you can always opt for different compatible chart bundle.
As opposed to the older units like the Elite-7 Ti 000-11665-001, this one includes the C-MAP Genesis Live feature. This application can be compared to the Quickdraw Contours offered by the Garmin ECHOMAP Plus units, or the AutoChart Live offered by most of the new Humminbird units. It is a depth contour recording feature that uses the 2D sonar data and the GPS data to reveal the depth contours of the lake or body of water that you’re scanning. It gives you the possibility to create high-definition personalize maps featuring 1/2 ft contours, making it much easier to find better fishing spots, and providing control over contour transparency, contour density, shading and more. It’s important to mention, though, that the unit cannot save the maps created with C-MAP Genesis in its own memory; you will need to save them on a microSD card.
The StructureMap feature is also available with this Lowrance Elite-7 Ti2 unit. This application gives you the possibility to overlay the unit’s current maps with images recorded from the SideScan sonar. Therefore, you can visualize the underwater environment in relation to your position which can help in interpreting the SideScan images better. Also, when Live Data is selected, the SideScan imaging history is displayed as a trail behind the vessel icon. The StructureMap view can also be put in split-screen with the C-MAP Genesis recording.
The unit has internal GPS. It is equipped with a 16-channel, 10 Hz GPS receiver. This means it can provide position updates 10 times per second. It supports WAAS, MSAS, and EGNOS, and has a GPS speed function. It can save up to 3,000 waypoints in its memory and also has track plotting and route creation functions. Therefore, you can record and save up to 100 plotted tracks with up to 10,000 points per track, and create up to 100 routes. Each recorded track can be converted to a route.
Control unit features
This Lowrance unit features a TFT color 7-inch SolarMAX display with LED backlight, offering excellent readability in direct sunlight even from sharp angles up to 85°. It’s pixel resolution is 800 x 480 and the unit is also IPX7 waterproof, which means it can withstand incidental water exposure.
The unit has a highly intuitive touchscreen interface. It responds to any touch command as a tablet. You can pin the applications that you use the mos on its homepage for quick access. It also has several buttons on the right side for functions such as zoom, page swap, and ON/OFF.
The included mount is the standard Gimbal bracket with side knobs. A unit cover is also included; however, the in-dash mounting kit is only optional.
In terms of networking, this Lowrance fish finder is equipped with an Ethernet port, an NMEA 2000 Micro-C port, and supports most of the NMEA 0183 sentences. This being said, you can integrate it into an existing boat grid or connect it to other Lowrance units or boat instruments such as AIS, MotorGuide, and more. It does not support Radar, though.
Wireless connectivity is also included. This being said, you can access the GoFree Cloud form a Wi-Fi hotspot for Insight Genesis maps or other downloads. You can share data such as sonar, waypoints, routes, or mapping between units within a wireless network. You can even sync your unit with your smartphone in order to benefit from smart notifications from your phone on the plotter’s display.
Last but not least, the unit is equipped with a microSD card reader. It only has one slot, so you can either use a chart chip or a microSD data card.
